Akron Races Past Iona

Five Akron Zips reached double figures in scoring, led by a 20-point effort by Eric Mahaffey, as Akron (4-1) rolled to a 96-75 win over Iona (4-1) on Friday on the opening day of the 2025 Paradise Jam.

Akron led by 47-33 at the half and by as many as 30 down the stretch in the Zips’ winning effort. Joining Mahaffey in double figures were Tavari Johnson (19 points), Evan Mahaffey (16 points), Shammah Scott (14 points), and Bowen Hardman (10 points). Eric Mahaffey’s eight boards were also a game high.

Kosy Akametu led Iona with 16 points and seven rebounds.        

With the win, Akron advances to face the winner of the Oregon State/Evansville matchup at 9 p.m. Sunday, while Iona will square off against the losing team from the same contest at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
