Gaels Erase 19-Point Second-Half Deficit, Down Oregon State in Double OT

A game-tying 3-pointer with one second in regulation by Luke Jungers capped a furious rally that saw Iona (5-1) rally from a 19-point second-half deficit to close day two of the Paradise Jam with a 91-84 double-overtime win over Oregon State (3-3) on Saturday.

C.J. Anthony led five Iona players in double figures with a 22-point, five-rebound effort.

Oregon State led by 19 points (58-39) with 10:45 to play, but managed just two field goals down the stretch. Meanwhile, Iona chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the game at 70-70 – the first tie since the game was tied at 14 just under seven minutes into the contest – and knotted the game with one second left on a corner 3-pointer by Luke Jungers.

The Beavers controlled the pace in the first overtime, leading by four (78-74) with just over a minute to play, but again Iona answered and knotted the game with five seconds left in the overtime period with a pair of Anthony free throws to send the game to the second overtime.

After Oregon State again took a three-point lead, Iona’s answer saw them claim their first lead post-regulation with 1:39 to play after a 3-pointer by Toby Harris. The seven-point margin of victory represented Iona’s biggest lead of the evening.

Toby Harris and Denver Anglin both added 16 points in the winning effort, Lamin Sabally added 12, and Jungers tallied 11 for the Gaels. Noah Amenhauser led Oregon State with a 20-point, 10-rebound effort.
