Commodores Rally From 16 Down To Capture Island Division Title
Mikayla Blakes scored a game-high 27 points, leading the way for No. 17 Vanderbilt as the Commodores (8-0) rallied from an early 16-point deficit to capture the Island Division championship with an 84-71 win over BYU (7-1) on Saturday on the final day of the 2025 Paradise Jam.
BYU rolled to a 28-16 lead after the first quarter and stretched its lead to 16 (32-16) after two quick buckets to open the second, but Vanderbilt charged back and claimed a lead before the half.
The Commodores continued with the momentum in the third quarter, and pushed its lead to as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Justine Pissott (18 points) and Aubrey Galvan (16 points) both reached double figures for the Commodores. Pissott added 10 points to end with a double-double, while Sacha Washington led Vanderbilt with 12 boards. Marya Hudgins was BYU’s leading scorer with 24 points.
Vanderbilt returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 3, hosting Virginia in the opening game of the ACC/SEC Challenge. BYU also returns to action that same day hosting Washington State.
